Target Information
SNF1LK2 (QIK) is a serine/threonine kinase and a salt-inducible kinase belonging to the AMP-activated protein kinase family.
SIK2 negatively regulates CRE-binding protein (CREB) activity by phosphorylating the CREB-specific coactivator TORC.
It is involved in signaling cascades regulating insulin-induced genes (PGC-1α, UCP-1) in brown adipocytes, with implications in obesity and insulin resistance.
SIK2 also acts as a key regulator for neuronal survival after ischemia, suppressing CREB-mediated gene expression following oxygen-glucose deprivation.
