This antibody detects endogenous levels of total GABRA4 protein.

Target Information

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain, acting at GABA-A receptors which are ligand-gated chloride channels. Chloride conductance of these channels can be modulated by agents such as benzodiazepines.
At least 16 distinct subunits of GABA-A receptors have been identified. The GABRA4 gene encodes the alpha-4 subunit, associated with autism etiology and risk through interaction with the gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor beta-1 subunit.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found in this gene.
