SPHK2는 SPHK1과 함께 sphingosine을 인산화하여 sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P)를 생성하며, 이는 G-단백질 결합 수용체를 통해 다양한 세포 과정을 조절합니다.
SPHK 억제제는 암 치료를 위한 잠재적 치료제로 연구되고 있습니다.
SPHK2는 세포 분화, 칼슘 이동, 세포사멸(apoptosis) 등 다양한 세포 기능 조절에 관여합니다.
S1P 수용체(EDG family)는 여러 G 단백질(Gi, Gq, G13 등)과 결합하여 세포 이동성, 생존, 세포 간 상호작용 등을 조절합니다.
또한 S1P는 심장 형성, 혈관 성숙, 난자 생존, 면역세포 이동, 신경계 및 골세포 조절에도 중요한 역할을 합니다.
S1P 수준은 Sphk1 및 Sphk2의 활성에 의해 조절됩니다.
