APC 유전자는 Wnt 신호 경로의 억제 인자로 작용하는 종양 억제 단백질을 암호화합니다. 또한 세포 이동, 부착, 전사 활성화, 세포자멸사 등의 과정에도 관여합니다. 이 유전자의 결함은 상염색체 우성 전암성 질환인 가족성 선종성 용종증(FAP)을 유발하며, 일반적으로 악성으로 진행됩니다. 질병 관련 돌연변이는 주로 돌연변이 클러스터 영역(MCR)에 집중되어 있으며, 절단된 단백질 산물을 생성합니다.
