Histone H3 is one of the DNA-binding proteins found in chromatin of all eukaryotic cells. H3, along with four core histone proteins, binds to DNA forming the nucleosome structure. Histones play a central role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, replication, and chromosomal stability. Post-translational modifications of histones, such as methylation, acetylation, or phosphorylation, influence chromatin structure and gene expression by modulating the binding of transcription factors.
