Target Information
NMDAR1 encodes a protein that is a critical subunit of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors, members of the glutamate receptor channel superfamily which are heteromeric protein complexes forming ligand-gated ion channels. These subunits play a key role in synaptic plasticity, believed to underlie memory and learning. Expression of different isoforms is controlled by cell-specific factors, contributing to functional diversity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
