Target Information
Adiponectin is a protein hormone secreted exclusively by adipocytes that regulates lipid and glucose metabolism. It plays key roles in homeostasis and obesity. Lower adiponectin levels correlate with obesity, insulin resistance, and hyperinsulinemia (type 2 diabetes).
In mice, adiponectin improves insulin signaling and reduces intramyocellular lipid levels through activation of AMP kinase and PPAR-alpha, enhancing fatty acid transport and oxidation.
