Target Information

c-Kit (mast/stem cell growth factor receptor, SCFR or CD117) is a transmembrane type III tyrosine kinase receptor encoded by the c-Kit proto-oncogene on chromosome 4. It is expressed in hematopoietic stem cells, germ cells, mast cells, and gastrointestinal cajal cells. Binding of stem cell factor (SCF) induces dimerization and receptor activation, leading to autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues such as Tyr703. This promotes Grb2 docking and Ras/ERK pathway activation. SCF/c-Kit signaling also activates PI3K, PLC-γ, and JAK/STAT pathways, essential for hematopoiesis, stem cell maintenance, and gametogenesis.
