Specificity Comments:
Vitamin D-binding protein (DBP), also known as GC protein, is a multifunctional serum protein that binds to plasma membranes and mediates various cellular functions. The DBP gene is located on human chromosome 4q13.3. DBP transports vitamin D and its metabolites to target organs, has immunomodulatory properties, binds leukocyte surfaces, and interacts with chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan. It enhances C5a chemotactic activity, binds globular actin for clearance from blood, and plays a role in osteoclast differentiation.
