Target Information
The carboxyl terminus of hsc70-interacting protein (CHIP) is a 35 kDa cytoplasmic protein that interacts with both the constitutive form (hsc70) and the stress-inducible form (hsp70). It is highly expressed in striated muscle and broadly expressed across cultured tissues. CHIP binds to the carboxyl terminus of hsc70 and hsp70, decreasing ATPase activity and reducing chaperone efficiency. It also functions in the ubiquitin-proteasome system as an E3 ubiquitin ligase through its U-box domain.
