Product Specific Information
Description:
The 16-10A1 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD80 (B7-1), a 55 kDa member of the Ig superfamily. CD80 is expressed by macrophages, dendritic cells, and activated B cells. Activated T cells can also express this antigen. CD80 binds with high affinity to T cell surface antigens CD28 and CD152 (CTLA-4), which are crucial for T-B cell communication and subsequent activation of T and B cells.

Reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of activated mouse splenocytes. Recommended use ≤ 0.25 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number can range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test. Titrate antibody for optimal performance.

Target Information
CD80 (B7-1) and CD86 (B7-2) are ligands of the T cell costimulatory molecule CD28 and inhibitory receptor CTLA-4 (CD152). Both are expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells and are essential for T cell activation. CD80 is rapidly induced on activated B cells, EBV-transformed B cell lines, Burkitt’s lymphoma cells, follicular B lymphoma cells, T cells, and monocytes. CD80 provides regulatory signals to T lymphocytes via binding to CD28 and CTLA-4.
Diseases associated with CD80 dysfunction include gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
