Target Information
This gene encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor belonging to the PAS (PER, ARNT, SIM) superfamily. PAS proteins are involved in adaptation to low oxygen levels, environmental pollutants, and circadian rhythm regulation.
The protein forms a transcriptionally active heterodimer with CLOCK, MOP4, and hypoxia-inducible factors (e.g., HIF1α).
It is coexpressed in brain regions such as the thalamus, hypothalamus, and amygdala.
Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
