Target Information
Tight junctions are key structures mediating cell-to-cell adhesion in epithelial and endothelial sheets. They form continuous seals that act as barriers to solute and water passage through the paracellular space. Claudin 6 is an integral membrane protein of the claudin family, functioning as a component of tight junction strands and serving as an entry cofactor for hepatitis C virus. Gene methylation may be associated with esophageal tumorigenesis. The CLDN6 gene is located adjacent to CLDN9 on chromosome 16.
