Target Information
IL-6 is a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen and is secreted at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, inducing transcriptional inflammatory responses via the IL-6 receptor alpha.
This gene is associated with various inflammation-related diseases such as diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi Sarcoma, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Elevated IL-6 levels have also been observed in viral infections, including COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).
