Target Information

Zic1 encodes a zinc finger protein expressed in the developing or mature central nervous system in a highly restricted manner.
Zic is expressed in granule cells that make synaptic contact with Purkinje cells and is critical for cerebellar pattern formation.
Expression of Zic genes begins at gastrulation and neurulation, becoming restricted to dorsal neural ectoderm and dorsal paraxial mesoderm.
The Zic1 gene is mapped to chromosome 9 in mouse. The 5′ flanking region contains a region-specific enhancer essential for gene regulation.
Zic2 and Zic3 are highly homologous genes; Zic2 is essential for brain formation, while Zic3 is important for right-left axis formation.
