Target Information
STING is a 379 amino acid signaling protein that acts as a key component of innate immune signaling. It activates NF-kappa-B and IRF3 transcription pathways, inducing expression of type I interferons (IFN-alpha and IFN-beta) and establishing an antiviral state.
STING may possess translocon functions influencing interferon induction and is involved in apoptotic signal transduction via MHC-II association. It facilitates detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA, mediates death signaling through ERK activation, and is localized in endoplasmic reticulum, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane.
STING is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
