Alpha Tubulin forms a heterodimer with beta Tubulin, constituting the basic building block of microtubules. These cytoskeletal structures are essential for cell shape, intracellular transport, and mitosis. Alpha and beta tubulins (~55 kDa each) are conserved across species, with multiple gene variants. Expression of alpha Tubulin is prominent in differentiated neuronal cells.
