Product Specific Information

This hamster IgG fraction was purified by affinity chromatography from normal Golden Syrian hamster serum.
Golden Syrian hamster IgG isotype control has been reported for use in surface and intracellular flow cytometric analysis and for immunohistochemical staining.
This isotype control antibody has been tested by flow cytometric analysis of mouse splenocytes and normal human peripheral blood. Use the isotype control at the same concentration as the experimental antibody.

Target Information

The isotype of a primary antibody and the application it is being used in can result in background staining.
Primary antibody background noise can be caused by binding to Fc receptors on target cells, non-specific interactions with cellular proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids, or by cell autofluorescence.
Isotype control antibodies serve as negative controls to distinguish non-specific background from specific antibody signal, as they have no relevant specificity to a target antigen.

While isotype controls are most commonly used in flow cytometry, they are also useful in applications such as:

  • Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)
  • Immunohistochemistry
  • Gel shift assays

Isotype controls should match the primary antibody species and isotype to ensure accurate determination of specific staining.
For directly labeled primary antibodies, the isotype control should ideally be conjugated with the same label.
