Target Information
Coagulation factor V (or Proaccelerin) is an essential component of the blood coagulation cascade. It circulates in plasma and is activated by thrombin, producing a heavy and light chain connected by calcium ions. Active factor V acts as a cofactor with activated factor X to convert prothrombin into thrombin. Mutations in the Factor V gene are associated with conditions such as Factor V deficiency, thrombophilia due to activated protein C resistance, Budd-Chiari syndrome, ischemic stroke, and recurrent pregnancy loss.
