Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a surface protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It is involved in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, and recognizes ligands such as oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells.
CD36 functions as a receptor for thrombospondin, mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes, and binds to collagen, thrombospondin, and oxidized LDL. Mutations can cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency.
Diseases associated with CD36 include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
