Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for mesenchymal-origin cells. The bound growth factor determines whether the receptor forms a homodimer or heterodimer with PDGFR beta. Knockout mouse studies show that homozygosity is lethal, and the alpha form of PDGFR plays a critical role in kidney development, as heterozygous mice exhibit defective kidney phenotypes.
