Target Information
The CD8B antigen is a cell surface glycoprotein found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes that mediates efficient cell-cell interactions within the immune system. The CD8 antigen acts as a coreceptor with the T-cell receptor, recognizing antigens presented by APCs in the context of class I MHC molecules. The functional coreceptor may be a homodimer of alpha chains or a heterodimer of alpha and beta chains, both sharing homology with immunoglobulin variable light chains. This gene encodes the CD8 beta chain isoforms, with multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants reported. A pseudogene located on chromosome 2 has also been identified.
