Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prxs consist of six members classified into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx groups.
Prx VI, belonging to the 1-Cys Prx subgroup, differs from the other five 2-Cys Prx isotypes, which exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity.
Mammalian Prxs are 20–30 kDa in size and vary in subcellular localization:
- Prx I, II, VI: cytosol
- Prx III: mitochondria
- Prx IV: endoplasmic reticulum and secretion
- Prx V: peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol
