FOXP3 (Forkhead box protein 3)는 forkhead/winged-helix 계열의 전사 조절 인자로, 포유류에서 고도로 보존되어 있으며 정상적인 면역 항상성 유지에 필수적입니다. FOXP3는 381개의 아미노산으로 구성되어 있으며, CD25⁺ CD4⁺ 조절 T 세포에서 안정적으로 고발현되며, CD4⁺/CD25⁻ 세포에서는 낮은 수준, CD4⁻/CD8⁺ T 세포에서는 발현되지 않습니다. FOXP3는 조절 T 세포의 주요 조절 유전자로 간주되며, scurfy 마우스 표현형 및 인간의 IPEX 증후군(X-linked autoimmunity-allergic dysregulation)과 관련이 있습니다. 또한 인간 유방암 및 대장암 세포에서 p53에 의해 FOXP3 발현이 조절됨이 보고되었습니다.
