Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of eukaryotic chromosomal fibers. Nucleosomes consist of ~146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. The chromatin fiber is compacted through interaction with linker histone H1.
The gene encoding histone H3.3 is intronless and produces transcripts lacking polyA tails, containing instead a palindromic termination element. It is located separately from other H3 genes on chromosome 6p22–p21.3.
