Target Information

NTRK2 (TRKB) belongs to the neurotrophic factor family central to the development and maintenance of the mammalian nervous system. It acts as the receptor for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Together, NTRK2 and BDNF regulate short-term synaptic functions and long-term potentiation of brain synapses.
TrkB is a tyrosine kinase gene highly related to TrkA, expressed in central and peripheral nervous system tissues. BDNF and NT-3 can induce rapid tyrosine phosphorylation of TrkB gp145, with BDNF eliciting a stronger response.
TrkB phosphorylates itself and MAPK pathway members upon neurotrophin binding, leading to cell differentiation. Mutations in TrkB are associated with obesity and mood disorders. Multiple transcriptional splice variants exist for TrkB.
