Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase belonging to the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally to modulate lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency increases HDL levels in animals. LIPG exhibits phospholipase activity and plays a role in vascular biology and lipid metabolism. It is a member of the TG lipase family, characterized by a lid region conferring substrate specificity. LIPG acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, and is essential for efficient digestion of dietary fats. It can also bind to heparin.
