Target Information
XPD is involved in the nucleotide excision repair pathway, a mechanism that repairs DNA damage. The encoded protein participates in transcription-coupled nucleotide excision repair and is an integral component of the basal transcription factor BTF2/TFIIH complex. It exhibits ATP-dependent DNA helicase activity and belongs to the RAD3/XPD subfamily of helicases. Mutations in this gene can cause xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group D, trichothiodystrophy, and Cockayne syndrome. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
