Target Information
SMADs are members of the MAD-related family of intracellular proteins essential in the signaling pathways of the serine/threonine kinase receptors of the TGF-beta superfamily.
SMADs are categorized into:
- R-SMADs: SMAD1, 2, 5, 8, 9
- Co-SMAD: SMAD4
- I-SMADs: SMAD6, 7
SMAD1, 5, 8, and 9 share high homology, and antibodies recognizing common sequences are available. SMAD8 and SMAD9 are often used interchangeably in literature.
