TRPML3는 달팽이관(cochlea) 내에서 발현되며, 특히 내외유모세포(inner and outer hair cells)에 존재합니다.
Mcoln3 유전자의 결함은 varitin-waddler (Va) 표현형의 원인이 됩니다.
Va 마우스는 조기 청력 손실, 전정기관 결함, 색소 이상 및 주산기 치사율을 보입니다.
Va-J (varitin-waddler Jackcon) 표현형은 유사하지만 덜 심각한 형태입니다.
TRPML3는 transient receptor family, polycystin subfamily에 속합니다.
