The Eph subfamily represents the largest group of receptor protein tyrosine kinases identified to date. Increasing evidence suggests they are involved in central nervous system function and development.
Human Eph receptors and their homologs include EphA1–EphA8 and EphB1–EphB6. Ligands for these receptors, such as ephrin-A2 (Elf-1), ephrin-A3, and ephrin-B2, mediate receptor-ligand interactions important for developmental signaling.
