Target Information
RYBP is a component of a Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1-like complex, which maintains transcriptional repression of genes such as Hox throughout development.
This complex acts via chromatin remodeling and histone modification, mediating monoubiquitination of histone H2A (Lys-119), leading to heritable changes in gene expression.
RYBP is required for normal silencing of one X chromosome in XX females and may recruit the complex to target sites to stimulate ubiquitination of H2A.
It inhibits ubiquitination and degradation of TP53, regulating transcription of TP53 target genes, and may influence proteasomal degradation of other proteins like FANK1 to regulate apoptosis.
RYBP may act as a transcriptional repressor and DNA-binding protein, potentially involved in tumor suppression in breast cancer through down-regulation of SRRM3.
