Target Information
Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 18 (TNFRSF18), also known as GITR or AITR, is a protein encoded by the TNFRSF18 gene in humans (mapped to 1p36.33). It belongs to the TNF-receptor superfamily. This receptor shows increased expression upon T-cell activation and is thought to play a key role in maintaining immunological self-tolerance via CD25(+)CD4(+) regulatory T cells. Mouse knockout studies suggest its involvement in regulating CD3-driven T-cell activation and programmed cell death. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
