Target Information
DNAL1 is a candidate gene for primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a disorder characterized by chronic respiratory infections, randomization of body symmetry, and reduced fertility. It is expressed in tissues with motile cilia and interacts with DNAH5, regulating its activity in sperm flagella and respiratory cilia. DNAL1 has also been identified as an HIV dependency factor (HDF), suggesting potential relevance in HIV research. Two isoforms of DNAL1 are known.
