Target Information
Thymidylate kinase (DTYMK) catalyzes the phosphorylation of dTMP to form dTDP in the dTTP synthesis pathway for DNA synthesis. DTYMK is essential for DNA synthesis and acts as an intermediate enzyme in the pathway of pyrimidine analog drugs such as 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU), widely used in solid tumor chemotherapy. The human DTYMK gene was identified through functional complementation of a Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell cycle mutant (cdc8). DTYMK mRNA levels and enzyme activity are regulated by cell cycle and growth pathways.
