Antibody detects endogenous levels of total MMP25.
Target Information
Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family proteins are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix during normal physiological processes such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in pathological conditions like arthritis and metastasis.
Most MMPs are secreted as inactive proproteins that are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases.
The MMP25 protein is a member of the membrane-type MMP (MT-MMP) subfamily, attached to the plasma membrane via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor.
In response to bacterial infection or inflammation, MMP25 is thought to inactivate alpha-1 proteinase inhibitor, aiding neutrophil transendothelial migration to inflammatory sites.
It may also contribute to tumor invasion and metastasis through activation of MMP2.
This gene was previously referred to as MMP20 but has been renamed MMP25.
