Target Information
HYOU1 belongs to the heat shock protein 70 family and plays an important role in protein folding and secretion in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Suppression of this protein is associated with accelerated apoptosis, suggesting a cytoprotective role under hypoxic conditions. It is up-regulated in tumors, particularly breast tumors, and linked to tumor invasiveness. This signal peptide-lacking protein functions as a housekeeping protein in the cytosol and localizes to both the ER and mitochondria through specific targeting signals.
