Target Information
Immunoglobulin classes share a basic four-polypeptide chain structure consisting of two heavy chains and two light chains (kappa and lambda, both ~22.5 kDa).
Kappa and lambda light chains have variable and constant regions, which can be distinguished by their antigenic properties.
The kappa to lambda ratio is approximately 70:30.
Antibodies to the kappa or lambda light chains are useful for identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas.
Demonstration of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates malignancy.
