MC1R (Melanocortin Receptor)는 melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH)과 adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)의 작용을 매개하는 수용체입니다. MSH와 MC1R은 멜라닌 생성의 주요 조절 인자로서, 피부 내 적색 pheomelanin과 흑색 eumelanin의 비율을 조절합니다. 비기능성 또는 절단된 형태의 수용체는 밝은 털색을 유도하며, 반대로 지속적으로 활성화된 수용체는 더 어두운 색을 나타냅니다.
