This antibody has specificity for Human HP1 Beta/CBX1.

Target Information

The HP1 Beta (CBX1) gene encodes a highly conserved nonhistone protein belonging to the heterochromatin protein family. It is enriched in heterochromatin and associated with centromeres.
The protein contains:

  • N-terminal chromodomain: binds to histone proteins via methylated lysine residues
  • C-terminal chromo shadow-domain: responsible for homodimerization and interaction with chromatin-associated nonhistone proteins

HP1 Beta may play an important role in epigenetic control of chromatin structure and gene expression. Several related pseudogenes are located on chromosomes 1, 3, and X. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
