Target Information

Formyl peptide receptors (FPR) are G protein-coupled receptors activated by different agonists, including N-formylated peptides originating from bacteria and mitochondria.
In humans, the FPR family includes:

  • FPR1: High affinity receptor
  • FPR2/ALX: Low affinity receptor (previously known as FPRL1 or ALX)
  • FPR3

Human FPR1 plays a key role in:

  • Phagocyte chemotaxis
  • Superoxide production
  • Degranulation
  • Directing phagocytes to infection sites

Functional FPR1 expression has been demonstrated in fibroblasts, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, A549 lung cells, HEP-G2 hepatoma cells, and various epithelial cells.

FPR2 (Formyl Peptide Receptor 2) is a protein-coding gene associated with Diamond-Blackfan Anemia 2 and Prion Disease. Related pathways include Class A/1 (Rhodopsin-like receptors) and GPCR downstream signalling.
Gene Ontology (GO) annotations include G protein-coupled receptor activity and N-formyl peptide receptor activity.
An important paralog of this gene is FPR3.
