Target Information
CAMK2B (CaMKII beta) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in synaptic plasticity, synaptic vesicle mobilization, and regulation of gene expression. It functions as a dominant kinase in the central nervous system, contributing to long-term potentiation and neurotransmitter release.
There are four CaMKII isozymes—alpha, beta, gamma, and delta—which may be co-expressed in the same tissue. CaMKII alpha is autophosphorylated on Thr 286 upon Ca2+/CaM complex binding to its autoinhibitory domain, a process known as Ca2+/CaM trapping, implicated in synaptic information encoding.
