GAP43 (Neuromodulin) is associated with nerve growth and is expressed by developing and regenerating neurons, and to a lesser extent by reactive glial cells. It is a major component of motile growth cones at the tips of elongating axons and plays a role in axonal and dendritic filopodia formation.
