Target Information
The Aurora kinases associate with microtubules during chromosome movement and segregation. AURKB (Aurora B) localizes to microtubules near kinetochores, specifically to K-fibers. This complex functions in chromosome alignment and separation, histone modification, and cytokinesis. The Chromosomal Passenger Complex (CPC) includes inner centromere protein (INCENP), survivin, and borealin, which influence the activity, localization, and stability of Aurora B. Two CPC forms exist during mitosis: one containing all four members and another consisting of INCENP and Aurora B. The full CPC functions in chromosome alignment and cytokinesis, while the INCENP–AurB complex may modify histone H3. Aurora B is overexpressed in various tumors, including breast and colon cancers, and may interact with Aurora-A kinase in a feedback mechanism.
