Target Information
Uridylyltransferase that mediates the terminal uridylation of mRNAs with short (less than 25 nucleotides) poly(A) tails, facilitating global mRNA decay. Essential for oocyte maturation and fertility. Involved in microRNA-induced gene silencing through uridylation of deadenylated miRNA targets and functions as a regulator of microRNA biogenesis using multiple uridylation mechanisms. Acts as a suppressor of miRNA biogenesis by mediating terminal uridylation of pre-let-7, preventing Dicer processing and promoting degradation. TUT4 and TUT7 also restrict retrotransposition of LINE-1 elements in cooperation with MOV10.
