포유류 미토콘드리아 복합체 I은 43개 이상의 서로 다른 서브유닛으로 구성되며, 이 중 7개는 미토콘드리아 게놈에 의해 암호화되고 나머지는 핵 유전자 산물입니다.
철-황 단백질 부분은 7개의 서브유닛으로 구성되며, 이 유전자의 산물도 포함됩니다.
복합체 I은 NADH 산화와 함께 유비퀴논 환원 및 미토콘드리아 외부로의 양성자 방출을 촉매합니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 미토콘드리아 복합체 I 결핍과 관련이 있습니다.
다양한 이소폼을 암호화하는 전사 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
