Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the DEAD-box protein family, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif and ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity. It exhibits high RNA-independent ATPase activity, and unlike most DEAD-box helicases, its ATPase activity is stimulated by both RNA and DNA. This protein functions in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. Nuclear roles include transcriptional regulation, mRNP assembly, pre-mRNA splicing, and mRNA export, while cytoplasmic functions involve translation, cellular signaling, and viral replication. Misregulation of this gene has been linked to tumorigenesis. A paralog exists on the Y chromosome, and pseudogenes are present on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants.
