Target Information
Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APC). T-cell activation is self-limited through expression of PD-1 (PDCD-1), which binds ligands PDL-1 and PDL-2 to deliver inhibitory signals. This mechanism prevents excessive immune activation in the absence of danger signals such as LPS. PD-1 deficient mice exhibit hyperactivated immune responses and autoimmune diseases. Although its predicted molecular weight is known, PD-1 often migrates at a higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE.
