Target Information
Levothyroxine (L-thyroxine, synthetic T4, 3,5,3’,5’-tetraiodo-L-thyronine) is a synthetic form of thyroxine, a thyroid hormone used in hormone replacement therapy for thyroid disorders.
The natural hormone and the pharmaceutical agent are both in the L-form.
Dextrothyroxine (D-thyroxine) was investigated as an anticholesterol agent but discontinued due to cardiac side effects.
