Target Information
Phosphorylase kinase is a hexadecameric enzyme composed of four copies of four subunits encoded by PHKA, PHKB, PHKG, and PHKD genes. This serine/threonine-specific kinase converts glycogen phosphorylase b to glycogen phosphorylase a, releasing glucose-1-phosphate from glycogen.
PHKB (Phosphorylase b kinase regulatory subunit beta) is a 1093 amino acid regulatory component of phosphorylase kinase. Mutations in PHKB cause glycogen storage disease type 9B, characterized by mild hepatomegaly, slightly elevated transaminases and plasma lipids, and improvement with age.
Four isoforms of PHKB are produced by alternative splicing.
